8 Of The Most Charming Towns In North Dakota

    All Dew News

A diverse Upper Midwestern landlocked stateNorth Dakota is acclaimed for its wide-ranging flatlands dominated by rolling prairies, badlands, farmlands, grassland plains, and temperate savanna. Boasting a strong heritage shaped by the miscellaneous Native American tribes who inhabited the region for thousands of years and the earnestness of the American pioneers, the Peace Garden State amazingly blends the retro charm with the friendly hospitality of the residents. Notwithstanding the fact that the state capital, Bismarck, and Fargo – the biggest city account for almost one-fifth of North Dakota’s entire populace, the Roughrider State is not frequented much by vacationers compared to its neighboring states. The countless charming small towns sprinkled all over the Flickertail State are waiting to captivate the hearts of holidayers who wish to spend quality time on their next vacation to this ‘Heaven on Earth.’

This seat of southeast-central North Dakota’s Stutsman County is situated at the meeting of Pipestem Creek and James River, nearly midway betwixt Fargo and Bismarck. Baptized by the Northern Pacific Railway’s General Thomas Rosser after Jamestown, Virginia, the town houses the main campus of the University of Jamestown – a private Christian university founded in 1883 and has been co-educational since then. The Frontier Village, located in the town’s southeastern end, features umpteen restored ancient structures, a museum filled with native history exhibits, and an American bison statue – believed to be the ‘World’s Largest Buffalo Monument.’ The Jamestown Reservoir at the town’s northern extremity offers abundant water-based recreation, while other attractions like the North Dakota Sports Hall of Fame, Jamestown Arts Center, Jamestown Civic Center, National Buffalo Museum, and two world-class disc golf courses are not to be missed.

    Nigeria protest

Hardship, insecurity cloud Nigeria president’s first year in office

    By Runsewe Ayomide mary

    https://msite.feednews.com/ng/en/posts/CP-ZnmJnBPm4

LAGOS, May 30 (Reuters) – Nigerian Josephine Akiga looks around her empty restaurant in Abuja, where a sole customer sits eating, longing for the days when the place was filled with people.

Business has been so tough since President Bola Tinubu took office a year ago that she sometimes lets customers pay what they have for a meal just to keep business ticking along.

“When … you have not sold anything since morning, it’s better to have that money than to allow the person to go,” said Akiga. “So you just ask the person to sit and then give him food for the money he has.”

Since taking office in May last year, Tinubu has implemented reforms including slashing fuel and electricity subsidies and devaluing the naira currency twice to try to increase investment and boost output. He says the policies are necessary to put Nigeria on a long-term growth path.

But the economy is growing well short of the 6% annual expansion targeted by Tinubu, while the reforms have driven inflation to a 28-year high, worsening a cost-of-living crisis.

Analysts say economic hardship is also fuelling crime which in turn is hurting people’s livelihoods.

Bismarck Rewane, a prominent economic analyst who was appointed to Tinubu’s economic council in March, agreed with the need for economic reforms but said more attention should have been paid to their implementation.

“The reforms came too quickly but there was no concrete plan to deal with the impact these reforms would have on the people,” he said.

The end of the fuel subsidy, which for decades made petrol very cheap for Nigerians, has hit people particularly hard. Petrol is widely used in the country to power not only cars but also generators for small businesses and homes.

Anthony Idowu, a 47-year-old bank employee, said the cost of filling his car had nearly quadrupled to 36,000 naira ($30) since the petrol subsidy was removed last year.

He now runs his petrol generator at home for only four hours a day to save money even if it means sleeping without a fan in the sweltering heat of Lagos, he said.

    VICIOUS CYCLE

The government has also been criticised for not doing enough to sort out the country’s security problem, which some people say is affecting their livelihoods. The government insists the security situation is improving, saying it has eliminated thousands of armed gang members and Islamist fighters.

Abdulrasheed Isa Gora, a 32-year-old petty trader and farmer in the Birnin Magaji area of northwest Zamfara state, said attacks by armed gangs were on the rise, making it difficult to farm or travel to other communities to sell his wares.

The Trump campaign said that this is part of the Biden administration’s ‘years-long assault on the Christian faith’

    Christians prepare to celebrate Easter

Rev. Russell Levenson joins ‘Your World’ to discuss the spirit of the Easter holiday.

After President Biden sparked fury by marking March 31 “Transgender Day of Visibility,” which this year is also Easter Sunday, former President Trump called for an immediate apology to millions of Christians and Catholics.

Trump’s national press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, called it “appalling and insulting” that Biden “formally proclaimed Easter Sunday as ‘Trans Day of Visibility.’”

Leavitt said the president’s announcement is an example of the Biden administration’s “years-long assault on the Christian faith.”

“We call on Joe Biden’s failing campaign and the White House to issue an apology to the millions of Catholics and Christians across America who believe tomorrow is for one celebration only — the resurrection of Jesus Christ,” she said.

Leavitt said the Biden administration’s move comes after the White House banned religious egg designs in its Easter Art Event. The art contest is part of the White House’s Easter traditions, which include the annual Easter Egg Roll.

The flier for the contest states that an Easter egg design submission “must not include any questionable content, religious symbols, overtly religious themes, or partisan political statements.”

A spokesperson for the Office of the First Lady said the egg-decorating guidelines came from the American Egg Board and have in place for45 year.

While March 31 has been designated to honor the transgender movement since Biden took office, this year it falls on Easter Sunday, one of the most important days for Christians, as they celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

“On Transgender Day of Visibility, we honor the extraordinary courage and contributions of transgender Americans and reaffirm our Nation’s commitment to forming a more perfect Union — where all people are created equal and treated equally throughout their lives,” a statement released by the White House read.

BIDEN SLAMMED ON SOCIAL MEDIA AFTER ANNOUNCING TRANSGENDER DAY OF VISIBILITY ON EASTER SUNDAY

“Today, we send a message to all transgender Americans:  You are loved.  You are heard.  You are understood.  You belong.  You are America, and my entire Administration and I have your back,” it continued. “NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR., President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim March 31, 2024, as Transgender Day of Visibility.”

Trump’s call for an apology from Biden came after prominent politicians and conservative commentators declared outrage over the ‘Transgender Day of Visibility’ on the most solemn Christian holiday.

“The Biden White House has betrayed the central tenet of Easter — which is the resurrection of Jesus Christ,” House Speaker Mike Johnsonposted on X. Banning sacred truth and tradition—while at the same time proclaiming Easter Sunday as ‘Transgender Day’—is outrageous and abhorrent. The American people are taking note.”

Caitlyn Jenner, former Olympic gold medal-winning decathlete, wrote on X that the “only thing you should be declaring on this day is ‘HE is Risen’.”

“I am absolutely disgusted that Joe Biden has declared the most Holy of Holy days – a self proclaimed devout Catholic – as Transgender Day of Visibility,” Jenner wrote. “The only thing you should be declaring on this day is ‘HE is Risen’.”

Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., wrote on X: “This is the left’s new religion. They want people worshiping the trans flag instead of God. They must be stopped.”

EASTER IS MARCH 31 THIS YEAR. HERE’S WHY MANY CHRISTIANS WILL WAKE UP BEFORE SUNRISE TO CELEBRATE

Former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamycalled Biden out on X, formerly Twitter, writing, “Joe Biden just proclaimed that ‘Transgender Visibility Day’ is on Sunday, March 31st. I wonder how he came up with that date.”

Rep. Alex Mooney, R-W.Va., echoed Ramaswamy’s sentiments as he blasted Biden for the “coincidence on the timing.”

BIDEN SKEWERED AS ‘WORLD’S WORST CATHOLIC’ WHO CHEAPENS IRISH AND CATHOLIC IDENTITY

“Joe Biden has proclaimed Easter Sunday as ‘Transgender Day of Visibility,’” Mooney wrote on X. “What a coincidence on the timing, right? This is a direct assault on Christianity. Yet another attack on religion and traditions by this administration.”

Tennessee Republican Rep. Diana Harshbarger said the announcement was “intentional” and slammed it as a “blatant disregard.”

“This is a direct assault on Christianity. It’s evident the left is determined to undermine our religion and traditions,” she wrote on X. “This isn’t just blatant disregard, it’s intentional.”

Conservative commentator Benny Johnson shared a screenshot of the White House statement, writing alongside it, “What a slap in the face to all Christians in America…”

    @AllDewnews at

The White House issued a statement saying the criticism over ‘Transgender Day of Visibility’ coinciding with Easter was divisive.

“As a Christian who celebrates Easter with family, President Biden stands for bringing people together and upholding the dignity and freedoms of every American,” read the statement. “Sadly, it’s unsurprising politicians are seeking to divide and weaken our country with cruel, hateful, and dishonest rhetoric. President Biden will never abuse his faith for political purposes or for profit.”

Ooni bans market groups over high cost of food

    14th July 2024

The leader of market heads in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Akinwande Olajire, has said Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, banned market groups in the town over their roles in current high cost of food items in the community.

A video of Olajire addressing traders in a neighborhood market in Ile-Ife had gone viral on Saturday.

Olajire, who spoke in Yoruba language said Oba Ogunwusi had suspended market groups, as their activities have been fingered as the cause of high cost of food items.

He said groups of traders dealing in various food items have been involving in fixing cost of goods, even when they have bought the items cheaply from farms.

Explaining further on the action of the monarch, Olajire said “Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, sent me to the markets across Ife. You must have seen one of videos that we recorded during the visits. I am the Babaloja of Ejigbomekun market also known as Oja tuntun. I am the leader of Babalojas in Ife.

“Baba Ooni and his Chiefs have been told of unjustifiable amount traders are selling food items in markets in the town and one of the measures to check this is the ban he placed on market groups. These groups are fixing prices for their members and we don’t want that. Traders should be free to sell at cheap rate, if they are able to buy at cheap rate from farms. The groups have been banned.

“We have locked all the identified places these markets groups are using for their meetings and we will keeping monitoring

them. If anyone is caught acting to intimidate traders for selling at cheap prices, such a person will face consequences.

“We also received several complaints from these traders about how motorists and others are extorting them. We will act on their complaint but they cant sell at prices we consider too high in our markets.”

    Weather forecast

3️⃣ A new study shows that the melting of the polar ice caps is causing our planet to spin more slowly, increasing the length of days at an “unprecedented” rate.

🌍 🧊 The paper, published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, shows water flowing from Greenland and Antarctica is resulting in more mass around the equator, co-author Surendra Adhikari of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory told AFP.

“It’s like when a figure skater does a pirouette, first holding her arms close to her body and then stretching them out,” added co-author Benedikt Soja of ETH Zurich. “The initially fast rotation becomes slower because the masses move away from the axis of rotation, increasing physical inertia.”

If the Earth turns more slowly, the length of day increases by a few milliseconds from the standard measure of 86,400 seconds.

A currently more significant cause of slowdown is the gravitational pull of the Moon, which drags on the oceans in a process called “tidal friction”.

GISTUS To Speed Up Visa Approvals For Nigerian Graduates With Job OffersPublished on 16 July 2024 at 6:26 PMBy Ikenna Ngere
    Kindly share this story:

    http://@AllDewnews

To strengthen the US economy and retain top talent, the Biden administration has introduced measures to fast-track employment-based non-immigrant visas for recent US college graduates who have secured job offers.

This initiative seeks to simplify immigration procedures and attract skilled workers to the United States.

By July 18, the Department of State will issue new guidelines for consular officers on recommending that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) approve ineligibility waivers.

These waivers are crucial for accelerating the visa application process while ensuring rigorous screening and security measures.

During the recent election season, the administration announced plans to prioritize international students who have graduated from US colleges and have job offers, promising quicker visa issuance for those who meet the criteria.

Employment-based non-immigrant visas, such as the widely-used H-1B visa, allow foreign nationals to work in the US temporarily. The visa process usually starts with the employer filing a petition for the prospective worker.

Applicants who are initially denied visas are typically informed of the reasons by the consular officer. Some of these applicants may qualify for a waiver, offering them another chance to obtain their visa. The DHS and the US Customs and Border Protection’s Admissibility Review Office handle these waiver requests.

Before applying for an H-1B or other temporary worker visa, employers must first receive approval for a Petition for a Nonimmigrant Worker (Form I-129) from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

Once this petition is approved, the prospective employee can proceed with their visa application, which includes completing the Online Non-immigrant Visa Application (Form DS-160) and scheduling an interview at a US embassy or consulate.

In the fiscal year 2023, USCIS and the Department of State issued over 192,000 employment-based immigrant visas, ensuring that no visas went unused for the second consecutive year.

ABUJA — Protests yesterday , grounded parts of Edo, Lagos, Osun and other states of the country as citizens kicked against economic hardship and called on President Bola Tinubu to address the problem of hunger in Nigeria.

The protests were organised by the Joint Action Front, JAF, the umbrella body of pro-workers civil society groups. It is a prelude to the two-day nationwide anti-hardship protest being organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, which begins today.

This is coming as Force Headquarters assured, yesterday, that the Police will protect workers nationwide and warned trouble-makers against hijacking the protests. It will be recalled that human rights activist, Femi Falana, SAN, had weekend written the Attorney-General of the Federation

and Minister of Justice, Kunle Fagbemi, SAN, asking him to urge Police to provide security protection for NLC members who will participate in today’s protest.

We’re dying’, Nigerians in Libya cry out over rising torture, xenophobia, abuse

    Poundsnova.art.blog Jul 15, 2024 10:28 AM

    • Libyan operatives neutralise migrants at borders as FG moves to repatriate Nigerians, others
    • How male Libyans sexually abuse our women in public – Nigerians
    • NIDCOM keeps mum
    • Our govt not culpable in killings, human rights abuses, says North African country

Many Nigerians and other African migrants in Libya are currently being caught in the web of widespread and systematic human rights violations, torture, exploitation, discrimination, detention and abuses against refugees and migrants with impunity.

Some Nigerians who live in the North African country narrated their ordeal in the hands of Libyans, their government and militias, saying the country has been killing, dehumanising and extorting migrants through illegal arrest and detention.

In their separate interviews with The Point on the telephone, Nigerians in Libya claimed that the country and its citizens now attack and show strong hatred and dislike for them and citizens of other countries.

They alleged serial arrest by security operatives and militias, adding that extortion through demand for exorbitant money for bail has been on the rise.

According to them, cases of sexual abuse by male Libyan citizens against Nigerian ladies are worsening.

“We are experiencing worse ill-treatment in the hands of the Libyan government and its people. Some of them complain that migrants are taken over in their land and that they need to send us back to our countries. We, Nigerians, are very many in this country, although, most of us did not plan to stay here (Libya). For instance, the person that facilitated my journey promised to take me to Europe before I saw myself in Libya.

“Countless of my fellow Nigerians and people from other African countries like Sudan, Niger, and others have been arrested and detained by Libyan militias. There is no explanation or justification for this arrest. These operatives will just break into your house and pick you up including women and children. In fact, a friend of mine who is pregnant was arrested last week and we are still looking at how to contribute money for her bail. She was picked up at her place after returning from work.

“The money they demand as bail is close to N1 million when converted from Libyan Dinar to Naira and if you don’t pay this money on time, there is a tendency that one may die in the prison because the place is very dirty and overcrowded. A lot of us cannot move freely here again.

“We are experiencing worse ill-treatment in the hands of the Libyan government and its people. Some of them complain that migrants are taken over in their land and that they need to send us back to our countries. We, Nigerians, are very many in this country, although, most of us did not plan to stay here (Libya). For instance, the person that facilitated my journey promised to take me to Europe before I saw myself in Libya.”

“Most male Libyans treat our ladies like animals. They sexually abuse them in public and use them for all manner of dirty works. No one dares to complain because almost everyone in Libya goes about with a gun and other dangerous weapons. Because Libya is an Islamic state, their men are not allowed to publicly have a relationship with their girls before marriage. So, this is making our girls become a dangerous species as these Libyan men satisfy their sexual urge forcefully with Nigerian ladies and other migrants,” a Nigerian in Libya who did not want to be mentioned narrated.

The Point reliably gathered that the Libyan government is set to repatriate no fewer than 400 Nigerians in a bid to reduce the number of migrants in the country.

The government, it was learned, has announced a free flight for citizens of other countries who are willing to return to their nations.

Another Nigerian in the country who simply identified himself as Ola, said, “Yes, Libya is tired of migrants and they are not hiding it. That is why they have announced the free flight for the repatriation of both legal and illegal migrants.”

“The information we are hearing is that it will be tougher here for migrants after this repatriation exercise. Already, many migrants are being tortured and killed and no one is saying anything. I am considering joining the free flight because the political crisis in Libya is not even helping matters.”

A video sighted by The Point showed some migrants who were attempting to enter Libya being neutralised at one of the country’s borders.

It was gathered that the attacks and killings were attempts to restrict movements of migrants into Libya while some non-state actors cash out on the devastating development.

According to a non-governmental organisation, NGO Refugees in Libya, some militias run some secret and unofficial prisons different from those run by Libya’s Directorate for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM), a department of the interior ministry.

Spokesperson and co-founder of Refugees in Libya, David Yambio, on his X handle, had posted videos of unbearable conditions of the secret prisons where Nigerians and other migrants are kept and tortured by the militias.

He called on the Libyan government and the European Commission to put an end to the abuse.

Amid the reported human rights abuse, torture and dehumanisation of Nigerians and other migrants, United Nations disclosed that it discovered a fresh mass grave in the desert along the Libyan-Tunisian.

It expressed worry that the number of people dying across the vast expanse of the Sahara Desert is now believed to eclipse the rate of migrant deaths at sea. This is sequel to discovery of the bodies of at least 65 migrants at another site this year in the region in March.

According to the UN, the Sahara Desert is now more deadly for migrants than the Mediterranean crossing.

UN human rights Chief Volker Türk, reportedly condemned the ongoing abuse of and violations against migrants and refugees in Libya, urging the authorities “to respond swiftly to our inquiries, and to investigate these crimes fully.”

“The loved ones of those who died have every right to know the truth and the responsibility to investigate these crimes falls squarely with the Libyan authorities,” Türk repeatedly told the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva,” he said.

every right to know the truth and the responsibility to investigate these crimes falls squarely with the Libyan authorities,” Türk repeatedly told the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva,” he said.

The senior UN official also stressed abuses against migrants and refugees in Libya had been documented for a long time and were being “perpetrated at scale, with impunity.”

In particular, he highlighted crimes against people such as human trafficking, torture, forced labour, extortion, starvation, detention and mass expulsions, which the UN noted are being committed by both state and non-state actors in Libya.

Turk made these known in a report submitted to the U.N. Human Rights Council last Tuesday.

The high commissioner’s report covers the human rights situation in Libya in the 12 months since April 2023. The report outlines “some disturbing developments,” among them an escalation in arbitrary arrests and detentions, enforced disappearances and detention-related violations.

His report documents a litany of horrors to which these vulnerable, desperate people are subjected, including “trafficking, torture, forced labour, extortion, starvation in intolerable conditions of detention,” as well as mass expulsions and the sale of human beings, including children.

“And in March this year, a mass grave was discovered in southwestern Libya, containing at least 65 bodies presumed to be migrants,” Türk said.

The high commissioner said, “As if this were not horrific enough, we are following up on reports of another mass grave recently discovered in the desert area at the Libyan-Tunisian border.”

Calling for investigations into these crimes, Türk said that, “The responsibility for investigating these crimes falls squarely with the Libyan authorities. Reparations must be made, justice served and nothing like this must ever happen again.”

He urged Libya to restore the rule of law, including accountability for human rights violations, and to protect the peoples’ right to freedom of assembly and association.

So, this is making our girls become a dangerous species as these Libyan men satisfy their sexual urges forcefully with Nigerian ladies and other migrants.”

“The stifling of civil society organizations, political activists, journalists and many others is fostering a climate of fear. It is also undermining the very foundations necessary for Libya’s democratic transition, emboldening the spoilers, and enabling security actors to perpetrate human rights violations with impunity,” he said.

When contacted by The Point, the Chairman/CEO of Nigeria Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, didn’t answer a phone call put across to her.

She did not also respond to text messages sent to her by our correspondent on Sunday.

The Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency deported 163 illegal migrants via Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli on February 1, 2024.

All deportees were of Nigerian nationality. Mohamed Breida, the Head of Security Affairs at the Agency, reported that among the group were 107 women, five children, and 51 men.

Breida added that the agency planned to deport an additional 160 migrants in the coming days via Benina International Airport.

More than 320 Nigerians stranded in Libya were rescued in January this year with the International Organisation for Migration coordinating moves to help them return to Nigeria.

War-torn Libya has become a key departure point on North Africa’s Mediterranean coast for migrants, mainly from other parts of Africa, risking dangerous sea voyages in hopes of reaching Europe.

The AFP reported that Libya’s rival administrations last year agreed on a Tripoli-based anti-immigration body tasked with coordinating deportations of foreigners who are in the country illegally.

“We carried out on Tuesday the expulsion of 163 irregular migrants of Nigerian nationality from the Mitiga airport, including 107 women, 51 men and five children,” Libya migration agency’s head of security, Mohamad Baredaa, told AFP.

According to the IOM, there are more than 700,000 migrants in Libya.

As foreign countries like the United Kingdom tighten their immigration policies, many Nigerians are still racing to leave the country following the wave of “Japa” and as economic conditions continue to worsen amid naira devaluation.
