Onyeka Onwenu, 72, has died after collapsing suddenly following a performance at a birthday celebration.
In a distressing loss to the Nigerian entertainment industry, legendary singer and actress Onyeka Onwenu has passed away at the age of 72.
The news broke late Tuesday night, following her sudden collapse at a birthday celebration for Mrs. Stella Okoli.
According to reports, Onwenu, who had just delivered a captivating performance at the event, collapsed shortly after her set.
Eyewitnesses at the party reported that she was rushed to Reddington Hospital in Lagos, but despite medical efforts, she could not be saved.
“It is very sad. Onyeka Onwenu just performed at the birthday of Mrs. Stella Okoli today (Tuesday, July 30, 2024), and after performing, she slumped. She was taken to Reddington Hospital and she couldn’t make it,” an eyewitness said
As at the time of this report, the singer’s family has not yet made an official announcement regarding her death.
